ZEAL Network, a leading Hamburg-based provider of online lottery products, announced that it will be parting ways with Helmut Becker, its chief executive officer. Until his term is over, however, Becker will remain on board and ensure a smooth transition of his duties.
Becker Led ZEAL for a Decade
According to the company’s official announcement, Becker, has decided not to extend his contract. This means that he will continue to serve as CEO until the end of his term on January 31, 2026. His exit will put an end to a twelve-year tenure on ZEAL Network’s executive board and a ten-year tenure as CEO.
Becker joined ZEAL in 2013, initially serving as chief marketing officer and an executive board member for over two years. In 2015, he was promoted to CEO – a position he has retained since.
In this position, Becker oversaw the company’s business and was responsible for a variety of strategic initiatives, including the acquisition of LOTTO24 AG, the return of ZEAL to Germany and the expansion of the portfolio to include freiheit+, Games and Traumhausverlosung.
Before joining the online lottery company, Becker worked in a marketing position for XING AG. Earlier still, he spent over 5 years at eBay.
ZEAL’s announcement clarified that Becker, who is now 56 years old, has opted to pursue his personal entrepreneurial activities in the future. It added that Becker informed the Supervisory Board of his decision early, providing ZEAL Network with ample time to initiate a structure process for his succession. This will ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities, allowing the company to carefully select its next chief.
This Was Not an Easy Decision
Becker reflected on his departure, saying that the company is in an excellent position to continue its momentum. He added that he has decided to pursue his personal entrepreneurial endeavors in the wake of ten years at the helm of ZEAL. While this wasn’t an easy decision, Becker believes that it was the right time for it.
I will especially miss our exceptionally strong team and the unique culture we have built together, characterized by innovation, customer focus and team spirit. I will continue to work hard until the end of my term to achieve the goals we have set together.
Helmut Becker, outgoing CEO, ZEAL Network
Peter Steiner, the chair of ZEAL’s Supervisory Board, said that the company regrets Becker’s decision not to seek a contract extension. Steiner acknowledged the outgoing CEO’s “decisive role” in developing ZEAL into a next-level company and thanked him for his strong leadership.
Steiner concluded: “On behalf of the Supervisory Board, I would like to thank him [Becker] for his outstanding commitment and strategic vision. We wish him all the best for his personal life and professional career.”
